Inquiries continue into pursuit at Tweed Heads, NSW

Police have been involved in a high-speed pursuit with a stolen vehicle on the state’s Far North Coast.

About 9am today (Friday 13 November 2020), Queensland Police performing border control duties on the NSW/Queensland border at Wharf Street, Tweed Heads, saw a black BMW SUV with Queensland registration.

As the SUV drove into NSW, Queensland Police advised their counterparts in NSW when checks revealed the vehicle was confirmed stolen.

A short time later officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District saw the SUV in Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads, directed the driver to stop, who allegedly ignored the direction and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated when the vehicle was driven erratically at excessive speed.

The SUV was last seen by NSW Police, travelling north along the Pacific Highway.

Queensland border patrol police were notified. The vehicle continued through the border control at excessive speed. Thereafter, the vehicle was monitored by Queensland Police and was last reported heading toward Logan.

Inquiries into this incident are continuing.
