The Hon David Littleproud MP
Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management

Minister for Water Resources David Littleproud has asked Murray-Darling Inspector-General Mick Keelty to investigate the premature release of a Northern Basin water monitoring report.

The premature release of an incorrect version of Monitoring first flush flows in the Namoi, Macquarie and Warrego River identified a number of properties.

“We want the public to have the full picture on how this happened,” Minister Littleproud said.

The Interim Inspector-General will examine:

  • The events that led to the premature release of the report;
  • The Murray Darling Basin Authority’s response to the premature release;
  • The adequacy of Murray Darling Basin Authority procedures for managing the release of compliance and enforcement related information; and
  • Provide me with a report on the outcomes of his investigations and any actions necessary to address his findings.

“The public needs to have confidence in the MDBA and this will hold them to account.

“Mr Keelty is an eminent Australian who will be tough, but fair in getting to the bottom of this.

“I have asked the Inspector-General to report back to me by the end of November.”
