Recovery Officers from Yarra Ranges Council have teamed up with the Insurance Council of Australia who are hosting virtual one-on-one consultations for Yarra Ranges residents affected by the June 2021 severe weather event.

The virtual video or phone consultations can be booked with ICA representatives and insurers, and will take place on Thursday 31 March 2022 from 9am – 8pm. Though, if you are unavailable there are alternative dates which can be made via the booking process.

Representatives are able to support you with:

• Financial loss and impacts to business

• Insurance and rebuilding

• Loss of documents and tenancy insurance

Insurance company representatives will offer free advice for storm-related issues and may also be able to help with difficult insurance claims.

Yarra Ranges Council mayor, Jim Child said the consultation event was an opportunity for policyholders and residents to raise their concerns around their own insurance policies.

“We know from how popular the first consultation event was, that this is something our community still needs support with,” Cr Child said.

“In the last consultation discussions revolved around the significant and ongoing COVID related impacts on the building industry and delays in the repair process are a significant point of concern for residents keen on moving forward with repairs and rebuilds.”

“This event, like the last, is a great opportunity for residents who are still having ongoing problems with their insurance company to come together in a safe environment with the Insurance Council of Australia, who may be able to aid them in coming to an agreement or outcome with their insurer.”

If you would like a support person to attend a consultation meeting with you (this may include your recovery support worker from Windermere, Anglicare or representative from Eastern Community Legal Centre) you can request to have them join your meeting following your booking.

The virtual video or phone consultations are available in 30-minute blocks and will take place on Thursday 31 March 2022 from 9am – 8pm.
