International repair day launch of new reuse and repair trail

This Saturday 15 October is International Repair Day with the theme ‘Repair Everywhere’.

As part of this event, Ballina Shire Council is joining North East Waste and other local councils to celebrate the brilliant repair groups and businesses that are at the heart of the repair and reuse movement with the launch of a new online directory, the Reuse and Repair Trail.

“International Repair Day highlights the value of repair and promotes global community efforts to fix the items we own, rather than constantly buying new stuff,” said Linda Tohver, Education Coordinator, NE Waste.

“Collectively, Northern Rivers councils recognise this as an opportunity to create a unique business directory to highlight businesses and groups that provide a repair, reuse, or restore service for household goods and materials. The directory will be easily accessible to our regional community, giving them options of where they can go to get something fixed, or to pick up something second-hand.”

An online regional map promoting the reuse and repair businesses will feature alongside other reuse programs NE Waste coordinate, including Second Hand Saturday. They will also be featured on the Second Hand Saturday app.

The Reuse and Repair Trail is now open for reuse and repair businesses to register their service for free at newaste.org.au/rrt
