The Morrison Government has provided $308.8 million to fund new research centres that will produce world-leading outcomes that drive job creation, productivity improvements and benefit Australian society.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Morrison Government had funded nine new Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence in fields of national importance.
“The Centres of Excellence will undertake highly innovative and transformational research,” Mr Tehan said.
“They will bring together experts from universities, business, government and research organisations to generate world-leading research with real-world benefits.
“Seven Australian universities will administer these centres involving a further 174 participating organisations from 26 countries. Together they will provide a total of $448.6 million in cash and in-kind support to the centres.
“Business collaboration on innovation is generally low in Australia when compared to other OECD countries despite the benefits to the businesses and universities involved.
“We must get better at commercialising our research, and turning ideas into jobs, productivity gains and economic growth.
“Our Government is strategically investing in partnerships between universities, industry and government to drive the commercialisation of research.”
Funding for the new ARC Centres of Excellence will start in 2020. More details on the new centres are available on the ARC website.
