The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is committed to ensuring the benefits of the fastest growing economy in the country are being shared across Tasmania, with the South East Employment Hub an outstanding example of how we are helping to make that happen.

Today we have confirmed an extension of the South East Employment Hub with funding of $300,000 for a further 12-months, and a commitment to work with our local and federal government colleagues, stakeholders and community partners, to ensure this already successful model continues to meet the current and future needs of the community.

Liberal Member for Prosser, Jane Howlett, who has been a champion of the Jobs Hub said: “The model is working, 100 people have secured local jobs as a direct result of the individualised focus, transport and training opportunities the Hub provides.

“I’ve witnessed firsthand how local job seekers in the region have benefited from the Hub, and how it has helped them turn their lives around. This has been a genuine game changer since the Government began investing in the Hub as part of our $4.08 million Jobs Action Package.”

Sorell Mayor, Kerry Vincent, said: “The Hub provides a place where individuals can network with the community, business and industry to seek further work opportunities, as well as having access to transport for training and work experience to assist with a pathway to employment.

“This extension and commitment to work with all levels of government, provides confidence for our municipality, particularly to those who are currently engaged with the Hub as they continue to gain experience and work towards a job.”

Chief Executive of Colony 47 Danny Sutton, welcomed the news and said this initiative demonstrates that local communities working together can create real opportunities for people to achieve employment in their local area.

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government’s priority is to strengthen the economy and create more jobs. With 21,100 jobs created since coming to Government, it’s initiatives like the Sorell Jobs Hub helping to build the bridges, and partner with business and industry so more people can benefit and have the opportunity to gain meaningful employment.

That is why we are working to identify other areas around Tasmania where this successful model can be replicated.
