IRONSIDE: Hunter man arrested, $4.9 million cash seized

A 51-year-old man from the Hunter region is facing court today following the seizure of millions of dollars in cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime from a rural property near Cessnock, NSW.

Following investigations earlier in the week related to Operation IRONSIDE-REGA, the Australian Federal Police, with assistance from the NSW Police Force Drugs and Firearms Squad, executed a search warrant on a rural property in Quorrobolong, NSW yesterday (Wednesday, 9 June).

During the search, Detectives discovered 49 bundles of Australian currency concealed inside a wall of a colour bond shed. Each bundle is estimated to contain approximately $100,000, totalling approximately $4.9 million in cash seized at the property.

Police also seized two motorcycles, two vehicles and a number of designer handbags.

Police also located what they suspect to be an encrypted communications device recently burnt in a fire.

The -51-year-old Quorrobolong man was arrested and was scheduled to appear before Cessnock Local Court today (Friday, 10 June 2021), charged with:

  • Dealing with property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime, contrary to section 400.3(1A) of the Criminal Code (Cth).
