JACET Charges – Child exploitation offences – East Arnhem Land

Detectives from the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team have arrested a 28-year-old man in an East Arnhem Land community yesterday.

Northern Territory and Australian Federal Police executed a section 3E Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) search warrant. Police located a mobile phone which contained online accounts used to solicit and access child abuse material.

The man has been charged with:

  • S474.22 CC 1995 – Use carriage service to access child abuse material
  • S474.22 CC 1995 – Use carriage service to access child abuse material (attempt)
  • S474.22 CC 1995 – Use carriage service to solicit child abuse material
  • S48 CPOR 2004 – Fail to comply with reporting obligations

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Sergeant Vanessa Barton said, “If you are caught accessing, soliciting or transmitting Child Abuse Material, you will be held accountable for your actions. This offending is not tolerated by anyone in our community, including remote communities.”
