- Vietnam trade mission led by Premier Roger Cook concludes in Hanoi after successful engagements in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City

The Cook Labor Government’s investment and trade mission has concluded in Hanoi – the final stage of its Vietnam program, following engagements in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.
The jobs, investment and trade mission to India and Vietnam was led by Premier Roger Cook and joined in Vietnam by Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis, Parliamentary Secretary Samantha Rowe and a delegation of 32 Western Australian businesses and organisations.
In Hanoi, the Premier, Minister and Parliamentary Secretary met with senior Vietnamese Government representatives to reinforce Western Australia’s commitment to its long-term strategic and economic relationship with Vietnam.
Discussions focussed on opportunities to deepen cooperation in energy transition, primary industries, international education and skills development.
The Premier met with Vietnam’s state-owned power utility, EVN, to discuss opportunities for WA industry to support Vietnam’s energy security and transition through LNG, energy and battery technologies, and clean energy skills.
The meeting aligned with the launch of the government’s global State of Energy campaign in Hanoi, which promotes WA as a leading destination for global business and industry.
A meeting with Vietnam Airlines focussed on supporting the long-term sustainability of the direct Ho Chi Minh City-Perth direct route. It also explored opportunities to increase flight frequency and direct links between Hanoi and Perth as demand grows.
The Premier also met with T&T Group to discuss opportunities in LNG, battery energy storage systems, grid integration and energy technologies, as well as training and skills development.
Minister Jarvis led the primary industries program, meeting with major Vietnamese agribusinesses including TH Group, Mavin Group and Thai Tan.
The meetings promoted WA’s capabilities in feed grain supply and livestock management, while providing insights into the procurement, supply, research and development and training needs of Vietnamese agribusinesses.
Minister Jarvis also met with Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to strengthen government-to-government relationships and identify opportunities for greater cooperation in primary industries.
Parliamentary Secretary Rowe led the international education and skills program, meeting with FPT Education and Vietnamese education and training authorities.
The Parliamentary Secretary also engaged with education agents with established relationships with Western Australian institutions and a track record of promoting WA as a study destination.

“Vietnam is an important trading and investment partner for WA, and our visit to Hanoi was an opportunity to strengthen the relationships that underpin that partnership.
“We have built on the strong connections between WA and Vietnam, identifying practical opportunities for Western Australian businesses to contribute to Vietnam’s energy transition, food security, skills development and economic growth.
“We have also explored opportunities for greater aviation connectivity between WA and Vietnam through direct flights.
“Our engagements will help open doors for WA businesses and strengthen the foundations for long-term trade and investment between our two jurisdictions – creating jobs and business opportunities for Western Australians.

“Vietnam’s growing agricultural sector presents significant opportunities for Western Australian producers and businesses.
“Our meetings with some of Vietnam’s leading agribusinesses will help us better understand their needs and demonstrate how WA can support their growth through our world-class feed grains, livestock expertise and agricultural innovation.
“We are also strengthening our government-to-government relationships to ensure WA is well positioned to support Vietnam’s agricultural modernisation and identify new opportunities for our primary industries.”
