A tender has been released for a new water treatment plant that will help secure Busselton’s drinking water supply as the region continues to grow.
The new water treatment plant is a key part of the $59.1 million Busselton Water Supply Improvement project, delivering essential infrastructure to support population growth, future housing, and continued economic development.
Jointly funded by the Australian Government through the National Water Grid Fund and the WA Government, the project will also establish a new inland drinking water source supporting infrastructure, including two seven-megalitre treated water storage tanks to strengthen water supply reliability, a pump station, and an expansion to the distribution network.
The project will enable 7,000 new connections to the community water supply, supporting the Cook Labor Government’s efforts to increase housing supply in regional Western Australia.
Together, the new treatment plant and inland bores will reduce reliance on Busselton Water’s coastal borefields and allow for the sustainable development of inland groundwater resources, strengthening the resilience of the region’s water supply.
Installation of the new production bore and an associated monitoring bore has already been completed.
The successful contractor will finalise the detailed design and construct the new water treatment plant, including treated water storage tanks, pumping and electrical systems, controls, and supporting infrastructure.
The contract will also include testing and commissioning before the new facility is integrated into Busselton Water’s network.
The project is expected to support economic activity across the South West, with tenderers encouraged to maximise opportunities for local contractors, suppliers, trades, and service providers.

“The project will also provide opportunities for South West contractors, suppliers, and trades, keeping more of the economic benefit in the region.
“By developing a sustainable inland water source, we’re also reducing pressure on Busselton’s coastal borefields and building a more resilient water network for future generations.”
