Queensland will once again be the centre of the rugby league universe next month as Brisbane welcomes the 2023 NRL Magic Round to Suncorp Stadium from 5-7 May.

Minister for Tourism and Sport Stirling Hinchliffe joined Australian Rugby League Commissioner Kate Jones and Brisbane Deputy Mayor Krista Adams today to remind rugby league supporters that there are now only 31 days until the NRL’s Magic Round kicks-off in Brisbane.

The event will welcome 16 teams, including four from Queensland, for eight games across three days as Brisbane plays host to the entire Round 10 of the NRL Premiership.

This year’s festivities will also get under way a day early with a special fan precinct opening on Thursday 4 May.

Last year’s Magic Round attracted more than 30,000 visitors to the region, proving huge economic stimulus for local hotels, restaurants and bars.

It’s expected this year’s event will inject $28 million in direct and indirect spending into the local economy that will support good Queensland jobs.

Tourism and Sports Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said:

“With the Dolphins making their NRL Magic Round debut and four Queensland teams on the paddock for the first time, this could be the biggest edition yet.

“The city will be buzzing, and I can’t wait to see the fans from all the different teams proudly parading their colours down Caxton Street and enjoying our great lifestyle.

“Suncorp Stadium is the best rectangular stadium in the world and to have eight NRL games played there over three days is simply magic!”

Australian Rugby League Commissioner Kate Jones said:

“NRL Magic Round Brisbane has quickly become one of the highlights of the Australian sporting calendar, bringing passionate fans of all ages and allegiances together for a unique celebration of Rugby League.”

“With the emergence of the Dolphins here in Queensland and record numbers attending and tuning into the incredible start to this Premiership season, we’re looking forward to the biggest and best NRL Magic Round Brisbane yet.”

Brisbane Deputy Mayor Krista Adams said:

“NRL Magic Round Brisbane is the best weekend in Australian sport, and there is no other city with this much sporting action packed into one magic weekend.

“We are proud to support this Brisbane born and bred event, which keeps getting bigger and better each year.

“NRL Magic Round is one of the highlights on Brisbane’s jam-packed major events calendar, which also features lots of free and affordable events for everyone to enjoy across the city.”
