Kate Kelly Collection On Exhibition In Parkes

Parkes Shire

The Kate Kelly art collection will be on exhibition in the Coventry Room at the Parkes Library and Cultural Centre from Saturday 16 July until Saturday 6 August.

The community is invited to attend an official opening for the exhibition on Friday 15 July at 6.30pm, hosted by the artist and author of Kate Kelly: The true story of Ned Kelly’s little sister. The cost for this event is $20pp and include nibbles and refreshments.

The exhibition is a collection of paintings by Rebecca Wilson, celebrating the retold story of Kate Kelly and her life as sister to infamous bushranger, Ned Kelly.

Rebecca is also the author of the best-selling biography of Kate Kelly, based on years of research and investigation into her life – she is the first to uncover the full story.

Manager Cultural, Education & Library Services, Kerryn Jones said “This astonishing story tells of Kate’s life riding as a messenger and decoy for the Kelly gang, her experience of the Glenrowan siege and how she popularised the story of her brother Ned.

“Kate became quite a celebrity until she vanished. Rebecca uncovers the story of this amazing woman’s life, 14 years of which she lived in Forbes,” added Ms Jones.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday 16 July until Saturday 6 August.

Tickets for the official opening can be purchased via Humanitix. Alternatively, you can book your tickets by visiting the Parkes Library & Cultural Centre.
