More Hills Shire residents will be able to kick a goal or hit a century thanks to the latest upgrades that have been completed at Kenthurst Park, in Kenthurst.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said the project to increase the size of the southern sports field area to accommodate two full-sized playing fields and enhancements to the existing turf cricket oval, including an improved cricket outfield and the retained turf cricket square, will mean more residents can play sport more frequently.

“These upgrades will give our residents and local sporting teams more access to quality sporting fields in Kenthurst,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“More fields, means more time to play, and many positive benefits like team camaraderie, socialising and building community, and the promotion of healthy and active lifestyles.

“I’m delighted to see this project now complete, and I can’t wait to see our sporting teams utilising these fields,” Mayor Gangemi added.

This project also required significant earthworks and the construction of a retaining wall, as well as the installation of a new irrigation system, sports field LED lighting and stormwater drainage.

In addition to this, new gardeners’ and sports storage sheds were built, and bush regeneration activities were carried out to enhance the Park’s onsite amenity.

With the upgrades now complete, the fields can now be used by local sporting clubs.

Charlotte Ercil, General Manager of Hills Football, which is the governing body for association football in The Hills, thanked Council and their contractors, Western Earthmoving, for completing the project in time for the 2023 winter football season.

“Thank you for ensuring that the future growth and demand of Hills Football and our member clubs is being addressed by assisting with these vital field upgrades,” Ms Ercil said.

Sue Torville, who is the President of Kenthurst & District Football Club, which has been awarded the winter field allocation at Kenthurst Park, said she was very grateful for the work that had been completed.

“This extension will be benefiting not only Kenthurst & District Football Club but every resident in Kenthurst and the greater community,” she said.

Meanwhile, Scott Reid, Executive Officer of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai and Hills District Cricket Association, which is the governing body for cricket in The Hills, said he welcomed the improvements.

“Access to quality facilities will enhance the retention of talented junior players for our Hills based clubs,” he added.
