KERBSIDE WASTE COLLECTION UPDATE

City of Port Phillip
Council crews are continuing to work alongside our contractor, Citywide, to address missed bin collections, as we work towards the restoration of service levels for kerbside waste collection.

Kerbside collections on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Today, 17 Citywide trucks are out in Port Melbourne and parts of St Kilda, attending to scheduled collection services plus missed bins. Continuing to support the Citywide fleet are redeployed Council staff, with three of our trucks focusing on missed bin collections across Port Phillip. The crews working on missed bins are prioritising garbage bins first, followed by FOGO then mixed recycling. So if your missed garbage bin has been emptied, but you’re still awaiting pickup for your FOGO or mixed recycling bin, thank you for patience and please be assured that our crews will attend to your missed FOGO and mixed recycling bin collections as the next priorities.

Whilst there are no regular scheduled kerbside waste collections on weekends, there will be a fleet of trucks out on the road across this weekend, focused on missed bin pickups across our City. At least 12 trucks will be out on Saturday (10 from Citywide and two from Council), plus 11 trucks will be out on the road on Sunday (10 from Citywide and one from Council) to continue working through missed bin collections.

Leaving your bins out

After reporting a missed bin pickup, please leave your bins out so that the waste collection crews can empty it without further delay.

You may have heard reports of stickers being placed on some bins, warning of potential fines for those bins being left out. In that instance, a Council Officer responded to a resident complaint about bins that were blocking access to a Port Melbourne laneway. The stickers were removed almost immediately, once the officer realised the bins had been left out for pickup due to missed collections. We are so sorry for the confusion in this instance and can confirm that we haven’t been (and will not be) issuing any fines for bins left out due to missed pickups.

When bins are full

For any properties affected by missed garbage bin pickups, where your garbage bins are now full, in this instance you may place normal household bagged garbage alongside of your kerbside garbage bin for collection. If you have any concerns about doing so (such as mess or attracting pests) there is now also an option for Port Phillip residents to drop off bagged household garbage directly to our Resource Recovery Centre (RRC), at no charge. Simply provide proof of your address at the entry gate to the RRC in South Melbourne. The RRC is open from 9 am to 1 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, and Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm.

And for any Port Phillip residents and businesses that have mixed recycling (from your yellow lidded bin) that you’d like to drop off yourself, you are still welcome to do so at the RRC, also at no charge.

Reporting missed bin pickups

If your garbage bin, FOGO recycling or mixed recycling bin has been missed – especially if by this week it has been missed more than once – please report it to us as soon as possible. The quickest and easiest way to report any missed bin collections is through the Snap Send Solve app or My Port Phillip via our website. You will also be able to call us over the weekend (on 9209 6777) if you don’t have online access to report missed pickups.

Thank you for your patience as our customer service teams work through the reports of missed bin pickups. Managing these requests is a manual process, so if by mistake your request is closed off too early but your bin hasn’t been collected yet, please report it to us and please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

We understand the frustration of our residents affected by these issues with our kerbside waste collection service, and we apologise unreservedly and truly appreciate your patience during this time.
