School kids from around Corangamite Shire can take a musical journey into the world of music, comedy, circus and dance of during the holidays.
The interactive performance ‘Junklandia’ will use rhythm, humour and physical theatre, to take the audience on a captivating journey about how through teamwork and creativity we can overcome seemingly insurmountable issues like pollution.
The performance tells the story of two brothers from planet Junklandia who are on a mission to teach Earthlings about music and creative recycling.
The show ends with a ‘junk orchestra’ where each audience member, equipped with a recycled instrument, will come together to create a one-of-a-kind junkyard band.
Council Economic Development and Events Officer Tammy Young said the Junkyard Beats company had been performing in major events, theatres, schools and festivals across Australia for the past six years.
“They put on a fun, dynamic rhythm show that includes workshops and creative musical activities that show the benefits of collaboration and teamwork.
“The group blends drumming, body percussion, dance, junk percussion, circus and hilarious skits to excite, inspire their audiences.
“They won the ‘Critics Pick’ award at the 2018 Sydney Fringe Festival and the 2017 TAFE ‘Contribution to the Community’ award.”
The show will be at the Theatre Royal in Camperdown on Friday 1 July, from
11 am–12:25 pm.
