Works to upgrade the King Island Hospital have restarted this week, following the lifting of travel restrictions to the Island.
We can now get back on track to delivering the King Island Hospital redevelopment and improving health facilities and services for the local community.
I know that many people in the King Island community were relieved when travel restrictions were lifted, and residents were more easily able to access the Tasmanian mainland.
I would like to thank everyone for their patience throughout this difficult time, and for their understanding for the interruption to work on the King Island Hospital.
The redevelopment was suspended on 10 April in response to COVID-19 and to protect the King Island community, with works now expected to be completed in 2021.
This decision was made in consultation with the King Island Council and the local clinicians.
The Government is working closely with Vos Construction, the council and clinicians to ensure Worksafe and Public Health obligations are met.
A range of public health measures have been implemented to manage the risks associated with COVID-19.
