Kingston ready to celebrate our seniors this October online

Kingston Seniors Festival returns for its fourteenth year this October, featuring a month-long program of online events and activities for Seniors.

Every year, the Seniors Festival is a time to connect with our community, meet new people and above all, celebrate what it means to be a Senior. The annual festival celebrates ageing positively and recognises the important contribution older people make to our community.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said although the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has meant the planned live events in this year’s program haven’t been able to go ahead, many activities and events have transitioned to online.

“Of course, we are disappointed to not be able to offer in-person events for our seniors again this year, but we still have a fantastic online program for the Kingston Seniors Festival throughout October,” Cr Staikos said. “The festival provides opportunities for seniors to pick up a new skill or develop a new hobby, and importantly make new local connections.”

The community is encouraged to keep an eye on the Seniors Festival webpage for updates about events that have transitioned to online events. You can also contact the listed event organiser directly for updated information about events that may be rescheduled for a later date.

Activities on offer during the festival that have transitioned online include:

  • planting workshops with garden designer Kaye Roberts-Palmer including Food Forests for Balcony and Seed Raising
  • Seniors fit club, line dancing and yoga
  • financial workshops covering downsizing and superannuation
  • author talks

The community can pick up a copy of the Seniors Festival Booklet to learn about all the events on offer, hear stories of active seniors, health and wellbeing information and stories from our local community.
