Kununurra Detectives have charged a man in relation to an incident in Kununurra on Monday 11 September 2023, which resulted in a woman receiving critical injuries.
About 9:40pm, officers were on patrol in Kununurra when they came across an injured woman on Mulga Street. It is alleged the woman was the victim of an assault and had become unconscious.
The 26-year-old woman was taken to Kununurra Hospital by St John WA, and the following morning was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, where she underwent emergency surgery for a head injury and remains in a critical condition.
Yesterday morning, Tuesday 12 September 2023, a 27-year-old man who is known to the injured woman was arrested in the Kununurra area. He has since been charged by Kununurra Detectives with:
– Aggravated Grievous Bodily Harm
– Breached a Family Violence Restraining Order.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Kununurra Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 13 September 2023.
Detectives continue to monitor the condition of the injured woman, and the investigation is ongoing.
