Labor bungles Western Renewables Link, kicks transparency past election

Australian Greens

The Victorian Greens have slammed Premier Ben Carroll’s announcement of yet another review into the Western Renewables Link, saying it will create further uncertainty and delays to critical renewable energy infrastructure. The Greens say Labor should immediately release the latest project costings and provide certainty to communities in Victoria’s west.

As stated by Victorian Greens Deputy Leader & MLC for Western Victoria, Sarah Mansfield:

“Labor has bungled the Western Renewables Link from the get-go. We need this infrastructure to support the rollout of renewables, but it has to be done properly.

“Today’s announcement is absolute nonsense. It’s simply implausible that updated costings don’t exist, and there’s no reason Victorians should have to wait until after the election to see them.

“Labor is creating even more uncertainty for communities in the west while further delaying critical transmission infrastructure. Delays drive up costs, and households will ultimately pay the price.

“The Greens have long called for transparency, genuine community engagement and proper community benefits. Instead, Labor has delivered uncertainty and delay.

“This is just another example of Labor doing and saying anything to stay in power.”
