Community invited to help shape Eaglehawk district’s future

The City of Greater Bendigo is inviting residents to help shape the future of Eaglehawk, Jackass Flat and California Gully through the development of a new Eaglehawk District Structure Plan and Urban Design Framework.

Community engagement is open until Wednesday December 2, 2026, with community members encouraged to visit Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo to share what’s important to them by completing a short survey or dropping a pin on a map. Feedback can also be shared on a draft Issues and Opportunities Paper.

Replacing the existing Eaglehawk Structure Plan, created in 2013, the new Structure Plan and Urban Design Framework will help shape decisions about land use, housing, heritage and neighbourhood character, transport and access, community facilities and services, recreation and open space, the natural environment, climate change and environmental risks.

Acting Manager Strategic Planning Bridget Maplestone said community input would play a vital role in creating the new structure plan.

“Eaglehawk and the neighbouring suburbs of Jackass Flat and California Gully have experienced significant change over the past decade, and we want to hear directly from the people who live, work, study and spend time in the area,” Ms Maplestone said.

“The draft Issues and Opportunities Paper has been prepared to start a conversation with the community. It outlines the planning context for the project, what is working well, what challenges need to be addressed and what opportunities should be considered as the district grows.

“Local knowledge is incredibly valuable, and feedback gathered at this stage will help to guide the direction and development of the Eaglehawk District Structure Plan and Urban Design Framework.

“Whether it’s ideas about housing, transport, parks, community facilities or protecting what makes Eaglehawk and surrounds special, we encourage everyone to get involved and share their views.”

Community members can also chat with City staff, ask questions and share ideas at a range of drop-in or pop-up sessions throughout November.

A draft Eaglehawk District Structure Plan and Urban Design Framework are anticipated to be available for community feedback in late 2027.
