The Allan Labor Government will fight to avoid transparency and keep documents relating to its gas ban hidden from Victorians at a VCAT hearing today.
The case Z135/2026 David Davis (Applicant) v DEECA (First Respondent) and Deloitte (Second Respondent) has been brought in the interests of transparency as Victorians face an energy cost of living crisis.
Jacinta Allan’s plan to forcibly ban the replacement of gas hot water services from March 2027 is bad for Victorians and adding to cost of living pressures.
Under Labor’s gas ban, Victorians will be forced to install expensive hot water services and deserve to understand exactly how much more they will pay and how much the performance of appliances will deteriorate.
A Liberals and Nationals Government will scrap Labor’s gas ban and work with the private sector to secure new conventional gas supplies.
Shadow Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, David Davis, said: “Labor’s gas ban is bad for Victorians and means less choice, higher costs and poorer energy security.
“This secret modelling has been paid by taxpayers, what does Labor have to hide in the secret costings in their regulatory impact statement and decision to ban replacement gas hot water services for more than 1.5 million Victorians?
“Only the Liberals and Nationals will scrap Labor’s gas ban, restore energy choice and lower costs for households and businesses.”
The VCAT case will be heard in person at 310 La Trobe Street, Melbourne from 10am.
