Labor Must Rule Out Public Sector Four-day Working Week

Liberal Party Victoria

The Allan Government must ensure Victorian taxpayers get value for money from their public service and rule out a four-day working week for public sector employees.

As part of the current pay negotiations with the State Government, the Community and Public Sector Union is demanding a $5,500 average sign-on bonus for as well as a four-day work week trial.

The sign-on bonus alone would cost Victorian taxpayers around $300 million and comes as the Allan Government faces protracted EBA disputes with firefighters, ambulance staff, Victoria Police and V/Line employees.

Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, David Hodgett, said: “Victorians shouldn’t have to pay more to get less work from their public service.

“At a time Victorians are paying higher taxes that any other state, Labor must ensure our public sector is focused on delivery better education, health, safety and infrastructure services for Victorian communities.

“This demand isn’t reasonable, and the Allan Government must rule out a four-day work week for public servants.”
