Labor’s Budget credibility problem

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Finance

The new parliamentary session provides the Shadow Treasurer David O’Byrne with an opportunity to address Labor’s serious economic credibility problem.

For six years, Labor has failed to deliver a costed alternative Budget: something we did in Opposition, and even the Greens do, now.

In October last year, Mr O’Byrne announced: “I will do the hard work needed to put before Tasmanians a vision and plan for the State’s finances.”

So when, Mr O’Byrne?

Will Labor be upfront and transparent with Tasmanians about their secret plans to jack up taxes, or the costings of their thought bubbles?

Will Labor reveal how big it wants to cut the government’s $3.7 billion job-creating infrastructure program?

Or will it be more ducking and weaving on this matter which is the key unanswered question surrounding Labor’s credibility on economic issues?

Next week is the opportunity for Mr O’Byrne to provide answers.

It’s Time, David.
