Labor should have done their homework

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

Labor’s Michelle O’Byrne should have done her homework before putting on an embarrassing display in Parliament in an attempt to get a “gotcha” moment this morning.

The fact is, in accordance with the Chief Officer’s Operating Instruction for Aerial Ladder/Platform Operations, only two trained staff are needed to operate the aerial appliance in question, not four as was alleged.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has invested $3.75 million to deliver three new state-of-the-art aerial appliances across the State which arrived in 2020.

These appliances provide the Tasmania Fire Service with the latest technology to further enhance their firefighting capabilities.

The appliance in the South experienced some technical issues when it first arrived, which have been rectified under warranty and it has been available for operational use since June this year.

It is fantastic that our firefighters have access to state of the art technology to help keep us and themselves safe, and this demonstrates the strong financial commitment and backing of this Liberal Government to support our firefighters and to keeping Tasmanians safe.
