Lake Conjola Entrance Management Funding Submission

Shoalhaven City Council have submitted a grant funding application with the NSW State Government on Friday, 14 February 2020 for an urgent long-term sustained opening of Lake Conjola

The grant was applied for under the Coastal and Estuary Grants Program – Financial Assistance for Bushfire Affected Coastal Waterways, with applications for this financial assistance closing on 10 March 2020.

Council engaged one of the authors of the 1999 Patterson Britton Report, Greg Britton to assist in preparing the lake opening plan that will support our application.

Shoalhaven City would like to clarify that Council has not been allocated $5 million to open Lake Conjola. Council has, however, been invited by the NSW Government to make an application for funding under the $5 million Bushfire affected coastal waterways grant program.

Lake Conjola was mechanically opened on the 10th February 2020, following the lakes trigger point being met. Council’s Engineers have now undertaken further emergency works to reduce the likely hood of the lake entrance closing again.

Council are committed to working with councillors and the community to find a solution to this contentious issue and encourage them to read the submission on Council’s website.
