Lead with purpose in 2024 Youth Council

Calling the next generation of leaders! Young people across the region have the opportunity to be young leaders with expressions of interest open for the 2024 Tamworth Regional Youth Council.

The group, which meets monthly to discuss issues important to youth across the Tamworth region, is open to students aged 15- 18 who have a passion for our region and its young people.

“Youth Council is an important advisory committee for our community, and they achieve real outcomes through mentoring and development programs,” said Tamworth Regional Council Director of Liveable Communities Gina Vereker.

“I really encourage students who want to make a meaningful contribution to apply, particularly from our towns such as Barraba, Manilla and Nundle.”

The Youth Council discuss relevant issues in the community, advocate for change and facilitate events during its term including Youth Week, youth leadership forums and other youth-led recreational activities.

2023 Youth Deputy Mayor Evey Sutton said the leadership opportunities she has had through Youth Council have been important to her personal development.

“Through the Youth Council I have had the opportunity to meet fantastic students from other schools, and help advocate for youth issues in our community. I would strongly encourage any young person interested to apply as it’s a great opportunity to have your voice hears,” said Ms Sutton.

Students interested in Youth Council can apply for a two-year term on Council’s website, with expressions of interest open from Friday 1 September to Thursday 28 September 2023.
