Liberals fail to deliver during housing crisis

Tasmanian Labor
  • Liberals break promise to deliver 900 new social housing properties
  • Tasmanian housing availability down 617 houses in five years
  • Government fails to address the issue with the urgency it deserves
  • The Minority Hodgman Liberal Government has failed to deliver on its promise to provide over 900 new social housing properties.

Shadow Minister for Housing, Alison Standen, said Tasmanians in desperate need of real solutions to the state’s homelessness crisis have again been let down by the Government.

“Since the Government has been elected Tasmania’s social and community housing stock has reduced by 617.

“The housing and homelessness crisis has become one of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s most shameful legacies.

“There are 3,300 people on the public housing waiting list and rental affordability is the worst in the country.

“On any given night, 1,600 Tasmanians are homeless and many other families are couch surfing, relying on their friends and families or living in sheds, cars or tents.

“The government needs to get serious about fixing this problem that continues to get worse all around the state,” Ms Standen said.
