Liberals finally get on with job

Tasmanian Labor
  • Port of Devonport upgrade finally underway
  • Delays continue to put jobs at risk
  • Still waiting for Burnie Port Investment
  • Tasmanian Labor welcomes the news that the Liberal Government has finally approved the upgrades to the Port of Devonport.

Acting Labor Leader Anita Dow said these important works will create much needed jobs and deliver improved economic outcomes for Tasmania.

“These works are crucially important, however while the Government have approved the Devonport Port upgrades, Minister Ferguson is yet to mention the Government’s Burnie Port commitment.

“The installation of a new shiploader at Burnie Port was promised by the Federal Government in 2019 and is still yet to be delivered.

“This Federal Government promise was to be delivered by Premier Gutwein, however it is well behind schedule.

“The Government continues to drag its feet on important infrastructure projects right across Tasmania.

“Approving the Port of Devonport upgrade is the first step in the Liberals delivering their Port Infrastructure election commitments, we now need to see work commence and assurance Tasmanian firms will benefit from these upgrades.

“Tasmanians are sick and tired of delayed infrastructure projects from the Liberal Government, we need a Government that will deliver what they promise, not make more empty announcements.

“Labor eagerly awaits much needed upgrades and investment in the Burnie Port”

    Anita Dow MP

    Acting Labor Leader
