New information has revealed that more than 7,000 Tasmanians have died while stuck on a health waitlist under the Liberals.
The appalling statistics lay bare the damage the Liberals have done to Tasmania’s health system in their 10 years in office.
According to Department of Health statistics:
- 5,232 people have died while on the outpatient waitlist from April 2014 – August 2023
- 1,861 died while on the elective surgery waitlist from April 2014 – September 2023.
Alarmingly, the rate at which Tasmanians are dying while waiting for healthcare has nearly tripled since 2014.
“After 10 years of the Liberals, the problems in healthcare are getting worse and worse,” said Anita Dow MP.
“It is heartbreaking that so many Tasmanians are spending their final days unable to access the treatment they need, and it’s devastating for their families and loved ones as well.
“Ten years of the Liberals has seen over 7,000 Tasmanians die while stuck on waiting list. Tasmanians shouldn’t give them 14 years.”
