Library of wellbeing

Nuriootpa Library is paving the path to positive mental health, by hosting a Wellbeing Day during the October School holidays.

Coinciding with World Mental Health Awareness Day on 10 October, the library will transform into a wellness hub where all ages can come together on a journey of discovery.

Digital Literacy and Programs Officer, Simone Stretton said the library team are excited about hosting a day filled with interesting experiences for the community to enjoy.

We are holding it to encourage people to learn and discover how to improve their mental health and wellbeing through a variety of activities and to encourage social interaction, connection to community and education.

Everyone is welcome, from tiny tots through to octogenarians and beyond.

“They can engage with pretty much all our activities,” adds Simone.

“There’ll be outdoor activities in the sunshine with giant lawn games and a chill out zone where people can just relax too, if they don’t want to participate in an activity.

“Come in and use the space and see all the resources we have here!”

The day begins at 10am with “Sound Healing” which uses the unifying effects of sound to help treat anxiety, depression and stress. At $10, the hour-long session will leave you restored and feeling totally relaxed to the point you may want to book in for a second round at 2pm!

Then, for just $3, paint your own pot, ready to plant a sunflower – the emblem at the heart of Seeds of Hope Suicide Prevention Network’s mission to help raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

It wouldn’t be a Wellbeing Day without getting your hands dirty as you enjoy the sensory benefits of plants with Doreen Von Linde, Barossa Bushgardens Natural Resource Centre Co-ordinator.

Ten-minute VR Meditation sessions will be perfect for teenagers seeking total immersion in a digital world, and the Mindful Craft and Colouring self-guided activity table will have you trying your hand at mandala art. Both these activities are free and require no booking.

And, as you would expect inside a library, you’ll find an extensive collection of Health and Wellbeing books offering a full range of topics.
