  • A re-elected majority Liberal Government will ensure the South Burnie Bowls Club have contemporary facilities, committing $2.13 million to redevelop their clubrooms and install a new synthetic green.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the club of 150 members was more than a place to play lawn bowls.

“The South Burnie Bowls Club plays a huge role in the community and is the home to more than 10 community groups,” he said.

“The clubhouse is more than 70 years old and is in need of an upgrade to better serve the bowlers, as well as groups like the Mavericks Line Dancers, the Friday Night Community Bingo, Hellyer College S&R and the NW Amputees.

“A re-elected majority Liberal Government will invest $2.13 million in the project, which includes $1.75 million towards their clubhouse redevelopment and a further $380,000 to install a new synthetic green.

“The bowls committee has done a lot of the hard work already to get costed designs for their clubhouse redevelopment and we are excited to support the club in their efforts to progress this project.”

The club has a strong history of State and National lawn bowls representatives over the years.

In the future, they hope to attract bigger tournaments to Burnie to play at their new facilities.
