The Territory Labor Government has released a $12 million tender for the construction of the Jabiru Health Centre, to elevate the township’s facilities and services for visitors and locals alike.
Today’s announcement was made in Jabiru by the Minister for Health Natasha Fyles and Local Member for Arafura Lawrence Costa.
The health centre will service Jabiru, surrounding communities and visiting tourists with associated clinical, support and administration spaces.
The Territory Labor Government will construct the facility to enhance access to medical services in the region and expand the provision of local renal dialysis services for patients in the West Arnhem region.
The Health Centre will provide eight consulting suites with dedicated male, female and paediatric rooms, four multi-purpose allied health examination rooms, a four-chair renal room and a dental surgery, including sterilisation and work rooms.
It will also include specialised facilities such as an audiology consulting room with a hearing booth, an X-ray room, a medication store and private pharmacy, a four-berth morgue with a viewing area and an external, culturally appropriate ceremony area adjacent to the morgue.
Emergency capabilities will be incorporated through a drive through ambulance bay and an emergency department with two resuscitation bays.
The project will see about 115 people working onsite, including contractors, Indigenous workers and apprentices.
The tender comes as part of the Territory Labor Government’s $135 million Jabiru Futures Package, with construction expected to begin in July 2022 and be completed in late 2023.
