The NSW Government’s Little Things campaign is growing its reach within culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities to encourage people to minimise the transmission of COVID-19 and flu.
Department of Customer Service Deputy Secretary, Customer, Delivery and Transformation William Murphy said as part of a new partnership with Val Morgan CineAsia light-hearted animations would run before in-language Chinese films across the state to directly engage with the Mandarin speaking Chinese community to encourage staying up to date with vaccinations.
“We wanted a unique approach to reaching the Chinese community which directly engages people with in-language cinema advertising,” Mr Murphy said.
“This approach was developed following low vaccination rates within some communities, so we knew we needed to reach them in a different, highly engaging way.
“Everyone has done an incredible job staying COVID-safe throughout the pandemic. But the risk of catching viral illnesses increases during winter as people tend to spend more time indoors.
“With COVID-19 cases high across the State and an early start to the flu season, we must remain vigilant.”
The Little Things campaign is the latest in a series of major awareness campaigns delivered by the NSW Government to promote healthy habits, as we continue to protect our communities.
The Val Morgan CineAsia partnership is one of many CALD focused partnerships, with Nan Hai and National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters Council partnerships to follow.
The Little Things campaign has been translated into 22 languages which will run alongside a bespoke campaign for Aboriginal audiences, focusing on encouraging COVID-safe behaviours and vaccination.
“We all want to do the right thing, so it’s important to remind everyone about the big difference little things can make to the health of others. Wear a mask in crowded places, stay home if you feel unwell, meet in open spaces and keep up to date with both COVID-19 and flu vaccinations,” Mr Murphy said.

Customers who need a free telephone interpreter can call 131 450, advise the language they need and ask the interpreter to connect them to the COVID-19 vaccine helpline.
