Littleproud welcomes South Australian step up in drought support

The Hon David Littleproud MP
Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management

Minister for Drought David Littleproud has welcomed South Australia’s announcement indicating struggling farmers will benefit from State Government support.

“The South Australian Government indicated to me that they were reviewing their drought support, and clearly they have identified further need from farmers,” Minister Littleproud said.

“South Australia’s $21 million package will help fund rebates on council rates, provide pastoral lease rent relief, as well as expanding the Rural Financial Counselling Service.

“The State Government is matching the Federal Government’s On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme, increasing the potential rebate from $25,000 to $50,000.

“This is package is the sort of leadership we are looking for from our States and Territories.

“Getting through this drought isn’t about playing games around who is giving more money.

“It’s about making sure the drought response at all levels of government is agile, and that it is stepping up as needed.

“One of the things that farmers all across the nation have been calling out for is rate relief.

“I commend the South Australian Government for responding to this need with today’s new support package.

“The Federal Government has stepped up our response as the drought has stepped up.”
