Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has welcomed the release of the draft Western Sydney Aerotropolis Plan (WSAP) for public comment – a blueprint for land use around the future economic and education hub that will develop near Western Sydney International Airport.

The WSAP (formerly the Land Use and Infrastructure Implementation Plan or LUIIP) presents the NSW Government’s vision for the Aerotropolis as a centre of jobs and education and outlines planning principles, different land uses for each of the precincts and the infrastructure needed to support development.

“This is a major step along the way towards a new airport that maximises the potential benefits for our community and people across Western Sydney,” Mayor Waller said.

“It also provides important information for landholders in the region that will help them decide their own future as the area they have known and loved for many years changes around them.

“We will be supporting the community to engage with the WSAP and also ensuring any concerns they have are communicated to the NSW Government which will make final decisions about zoning and land use planning.

“It’s important to get the framework right to deliver a world-class Aerotropolis – one that will be a game-changer for the people of Liverpool and South West Sydney and will create an attractive and sustainable lifestyle for residents and workers.

“Projects such as the Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) Corridor connecting Liverpool City Centre, the new Airport and the Aerotropolis are now shown in the WSAP and will help maximise the benefits of the region’s growth for our current and future residents.”

More than 600 submissions were received when the LUIIP Stage 1 Plan was exhibited last year. The Aerotropolis will be a key driver for 200,0000 new jobs for Western Sydney and will have at its core a STEM high school and university and skills hub incorporating aerospace and defence, manufacturing, health care, freight and logistics, agribusiness, education and research industries.

The draft WSAP covers six initial precincts – including the Aerotropolis Core, Northern Gateway and South Creek.

Most of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, including the Aerotropolis core, is located within the Liverpool local government area.

The draft WSAP is on exhibition for comment until Friday 28 February 2020.
