Nineteen organisations have received a share of more than $7.4 million over three years to deliver local projects to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Leanne Linard said services have been funded under the 2022-24 Community Action for a Multicultural Society (CAMS) program and the projects are due to commence in January 2022.
“Nineteen organisations have received funding for three years to connect people with opportunities for inclusion in local employment, services, social networks and industries,” she said.
“Organisations funded under the 2022-24 CAMS program will plan and deliver programs that tackle the economic and social barriers facing people,” she said.
“This shows Queensland’s capacity and willingness to work with local groups so that people from diverse cultural backgrounds can access and participate in programs within their own communities.”
Ms Linard said the CAMS program has been supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities across Queensland since 1999.
“We are pleased to expand the geographic reach of the CAMS program. It is terrific to see programs available in three new local government areas – Gladstone, Lockyer Valley and Redlands,” she said.
“For example, in Gladstone, funding will be used to deliver programs in the newly established Philip Street Communities and Family precinct. This is a wonderful example of clustering community facilities together to enhance service delivery and community outcomes.
“In the Lockyer Valley, the local Lockyer Community Centre will foster connections and opportunities to include people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
“In the Redlands, Access Community Services will link with existing services to empower people from culturally diverse communities to achieve their ambitions.
“I look forward to hearing about what is being achieved in local communities across Queensland through the CAMS program.”
