Local governments invited to submit new housing proposals

  • New Call for Submissions from local government initiative to boost social and affordable housing and deliver more workers accommodation
  • Submissions will assist the Cook Government to deliver a range of new housing options in Perth and regional Western Australia
  • Innovative and suitable submissions to be considered for grant funding, land leases or land contributions

The Cook Labor Government is calling for submissions from local government to bolster the supply and diversity of social and affordable housing and key worker accommodation across Western Australia.

This new Call for Submissions is open to all Western Australian local governments to work with the State Government, through the Department of Communities, in a variety of ways to deliver social housing, affordable rental housing, Government Regional Officer Housing, Local Government Officer Housing, and key worker and service worker accommodation.

Respondents are encouraged to first bring their projects on unencumbered land, however, all proposals within the parameters of the Call for Submissions will be considered. Submissions to be considered for support through the selection process may include capital grant funding, land leases, or land contributions, while the State Government is also open to exploring other innovative funding models and partnerships.

Earlier this year, the State Government announced $50 million in grants available under a Call for Submissions process for registered community housing providers to help increase the supply and diversity of new and refurbished social housing projects in regional WA.

Eligibility for the $50 million grant funding has now been expanded to local government submissions through the new Call for Submissions process, with funding available for housing projects in the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Goldfields-Esperance, Mid West, Gascoyne, Pilbara and the Kimberley Regions.

The State Government has brought forward this reform following requests from local governments across the State to be included in the Call for Submissions process.
