Local team to develop Bundilla Beach masterplan

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin has appointed architects Hames Sharley to engage with the community and deliver a masterplan for Bundilla Beach.

Hames Sharley has been operating in Darwin for 12 years and will work closely on the project with well-known Territory architect Hully Liveras, and Darwin landscape architect Tony Cox from Clouston.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was a fantastic local team with a proven track record of understanding the Territory and how to appropriately develop places of environmental and cultural significance.

“Bundilla Beach is a beautiful place with enormous potential and I’m confident this team will understand the community vision and develop a concept which will revitalise the area and enhance nearby suburbs,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“City of Darwin will work closely with the masterplan project team to lead an extensive community consultation which will inform the final design, to ensure the Bundilla development is embraced by locals and becomes a destination for visitors.”

An extensive analysis of the site will be undertaken which will include engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and review all existing information.

These works will form the foundation of a survey including concept design which will be taken to the community and stakeholders through focus groups, door knocking, letter box drops, meetings and community pop up stalls.

Following this community engagement a draft masterplan will be developed and released to the public.

The masterplan project team will deliver a final masterplan for Bundilla Beach before the end of the year, which will allow construction at Bundilla to begin next dry season.

The first stage of works for Bundilla Beach will be funded by $500,000 from City of Darwin and $3 million from the Northern Territory Government,
