Logan cements innovation partnership

Logan’s evolution towards being an innovative, dynamic city of the future has taken a giant leap forward with the announcement of a new partnership with a global education provider.

GO1.com, the Logan start-up that now touts itself as the world’s leading marketplace of training, has agreed to partner with Council to deliver a Logan Innovation Hub at the company’s Underwood premises.

The Co-Lab will be a place where entrepreneurs and scale-ups will receive support and mentoring to develop their businesses.

The deal will enable Council to be more agile to suit the ever-shifting innovation space, while opening up new opportunities to activate the indoor component of the Kingston Butter Factory redevelopment, which will not require a specialist hub.Director of Innovation and City Transformation Scott Bourke said Council’s decision to explore innovation hub options away from the KBF is a win for Logan.

“Our decision was made after extensive market research and advice from national and international experts and consultation with local stakeholders,” he said.

“Rather than investing in a permanent, physical location Council will work with corporate partners to deliver significant programs in other locations across the city.

“Another advantage of this strategy is that it gives us the opportunity to explore the full range of options to help the KBF redevelopment realise its full potential.”

GO1 is a globally successful company that has been referred to as the “Spotify of training”.

It has more than 200 employees and offices in six countries including its head office right here in Logan.

More than 1.5 million learners worldwide rely on GO1 for their training and compliance needs.

GO1 co-founder Vu Tran thanked the Council for the opportunity to help boost Logan’s entrepreneurial credentials.”We’re thrilled to be able to give back to the community and boost the number of successful start-ups and scale-ups with support and mentoring capabilities,” he said.

Work on the KBF’s new outdoor stage will start this week.

Over the coming months, the new 250 square metre stage and surrounds will take shape ahead of the venue’s scheduled opening in mid-2020.

When finished, the outdoor venue will have capacity for audiences of up to 5,000 people and attract national acts, host major festivals and local events and be home to markets and signature large-scale events.
