Windaroo Lakes Golf Club will next week host Australia’s next generation of top young golfers when the Queensland PGA Trainee Championship comes to the City of Logan.
The championship, from June 3 to 6, is run by the PGA of Australia.
It has attracted a strong field of 69 local and interstate golfing trainees keen to have their name engraved on the Carnegie Clark Cup alongside previous winners such as former world No.1 Greg Norman and three-time PGA Tour winner Rod Pampling, who both started their golf careers in Queensland.
Rising star Cooper Eccleston, from Brisbane’s Victoria Park Golf Complex, will defend his 2018 title following a year which led to the 20-year-old being crowned Australian PGA Trainee of the Year.
National trainee champion Frazer Droop, from Victoria, will also compete.
In addition to a prize purse of $35,000, the winner of the Queensland PGA Trainee Championship will also be awarded an invitation to the 2020 Coca-Cola QLD PGA Championship on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.
The Queensland PGA Trainee Championship will be the biggest event at Windaroo Lakes Golf Club since 1996 when it hosted the Queensland Open.
Logan City Council has sought to host the tournament under its Event Attraction Strategy which aims to use top-level sports events to encourage economic growth, profile the city and position Logan as a specialist sporting and cultural events destination.
