Police have been searching for a man and a woman after they were seen limping from a car that crashed into a home in North Melbourne overnight.
It appears the car was travelling at speed in Canning Street when it travelled over a centre medium strip at Dryburgh Street and lost control about midnight.
The car continued on and crashed into the front porch and living room of a home, narrowly missing a woman who was sleeping in a nearby bedroom.
The 84-year-old woman was not physically injured but was left terribly shaken after the incident. The home was also extensively damaged and is currently structurally unsafe.
A man and woman who were in the car at the time were seen walking and limping away from the vehicle.
Local police, critical incident response team and dog squad officers responded and searched for the pair but were not able locate them.
Police have a number of ongoing enquiries to make in relation to identifying the man and woman.
North West Metro Senior Sergeant Olivia Freeman said it was unbelievable that no one was killed.
“The damage to the home and car is significant, we also believe the woman at the very least has been injured as she was seen limping away from the scene,” S/Sgt Freeman said.
“We’d ask that they come forward to police as it will only be a matter of time before we knock on their door.”
