Locals and visitors will once again be able to safely berth smaller boats at one of the gateways to the South West Conservation Area, with work on the replacement Macquarie Heads jetty now complete.

Minister for Environment and Parks Roger Jaensch said, the new jetty provides a safe facility for shack owners and visitors to the area to enjoy the beautiful West Coast of Tasmania.

“Tasmania’s natural areas are stunning and enjoying them is part of our way of life, and the Government is committed to enhancing the experiences in parks and reserves for all to enjoy.

“The works were completed by Devonport based company AJR Construct, supporting local jobs when it was most needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The jetty is part of our Improved Statewide Visitor Infrastructure (ISVI) program and I am very pleased it has been completed just in time for the staged reopening of parks and reserves across Tasmania.”

Member for Braddon Joan Rylah said the new jetty would be warmly welcomed by the local shack community as well as recreational visitors to the area.

“The completion of these works is great news for our recreational fishers and all who enjoy our natural areas and outdoor experiences in the state’s South West,” Mrs Rylah said.

“With COVID-19 restrictions now eased, I’m sure the return of this jetty will be fully appreciated by those wishing to go fishing or enjoy a trip on the water in this stunning natural location.”

The jetty can only be used for short term berthing with a size restriction of a maximum vessel displacement of 5 T and maximum vessel length of nine metres. Signage is in place outlining these size limits.
