Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Maffra on Sunday night.
Emergency services were called to reports two men were located with serious injuries on Landy Street about 10pm.
Police arrived and found the 36-year-old man, of no fixed place of address, deceased at the scene.
The other man, a 46-year-old from Maffra, was taken to hospital under police guard.
He was later interviewed by detectives and has been released pending further enquiries.
It is believed the two men were known to each other.
