Raymond Terrace is set to welcome 10,000 visitors each day from across New South Wales when the NSW Koori Knockout kicks off at King Park from 2 to 5 October 2026.
Port Stephens Council has partnered with the Newcastle Yowies as a Major Event Sponsor for this year’s NSW Koori Knockout, Australia’s biggest celebration of Aboriginal sport, culture and community.
Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said the town is gearing up for the event after many months of planning and preparation.
“We’ve been supporting the Newcastle Yowies and working alongside Transport for NSW, NSW Police and other key stakeholders to ensure the event is well planned, safe and ready to welcome thousands of competitors, families and visitors to Raymond Terrace,” Mayor Anderson said.
“This event will give local families the opportunity to experience a premier cultural event close to home and the increase in visitors is expected to boost local businesses and accommodation across the October long weekend.
“Excitement is already building as the event starts to take shape. Our crews are working hard to ensure the King Park is tournament ready, with new goal posts installed, and drainage works completed – the fields are looking fantastic,” Mayor Anderson added.
Newcastle Yowies President, Warren Schillings, said they were proud to bring the competition to Worimi Country and looked forward to welcoming teams, families and supporters to Raymond Terrace.
“The Koori Knockout is one of Australia’s premier Aboriginal sporting events, bringing communities together through sport, culture and connection while inspiring the next generation,” Mr Schillings said.
“It’s a chance for people to reconnect, celebrate culture and share stories and traditions with family and community,” Mr Schillings added.
Destination Port Stephens CEO Jo Thomas said the event would provide an opportunity to encourage visitors to explore the region and support local tourism operators.
“The event will showcase Raymond Terrace as a welcoming community and gateway to Port Stephens, while encouraging visitors to extend their stay and experience what our incredible place has to offer,” Ms Thomas said.
Event preparations at King Park will become increasingly visible in the coming weeks as site setup activities commence and final plans are put in place.
Further community updates regarding parking layouts, temporary road closures and traffic management will be released from next week.
