Queensland is gearing up to welcome five-time world champions Brazil and the Socceroos from next week, with the Crisafulli Government delivering exciting fan experiences around the two blockbuster international matches.
The Crisafulli Government secured the Queensland Football Series, with games in both Townsville and Brisbane, in one of the world’s biggest football coups, and a major win for Queensland events.
Unforgettable experiences will be available for fans with street celebrations and opportunities to walk onto the field alongside Brazil players.
Queenslanders can get involved with:
- Townsville fan engagement event at the Ardo Hotel on 24th September with the chance to meet Socceroo players from 2pm, Brazil players from 4pm, followed by a junior football clinic for local Brothers FC Townsville.
- Townsville street party along Flinders Street from 3pm, 25th September, headlined by Sneaky Sound System, with live viewing locations.
- Caxton street party from 6pm on 29th September, with a pedestrian-only fan zone along the iconic street, featuring Brazilian music, dancers and performances.
- Young Queensland football fans aged 7-15 invited to accompany the world’s best footballers from Brazil onto the field for the two matches as part of the Player Mascot Competition, entries available at footballqueensland.com.au.
Queensland will also deliver a Welcome Reception in Townsville, and a Queensland Football Series Forum will take place in Brisbane to maximise economic benefits and drive more investment into Queensland.
Five young football supporters in Townsville and in Brisbane will have the chance to walk onto the field alongside Brazil’s superstars, with each winner getting to take home the official Brazil player mascot uniform as well as receiving a single junior ticket and two adult tickets to the match.
Entries can be made to Football Queensland via footballqueensland.com.au and winners will be notified on or before Monday 21 September.
The Townsville Street Party event is supported through the Albanese and Crisafulli Government’s Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and Townsville City Council.
The Brisbane Street Party is being delivered in conjunction with Brisbane City Council through Brisbane Economic Development Agency.
With more than half of all ticket holders travelling to attend the matches, the series is expected to generate significant economic benefits for local businesses, accommodation providers and hospitality venues across both Townsville and Brisbane.
Both the blockbuster games and the fan events have been secured by the Crisafulli Government in a major win for Queensland, as part of a plan to make Queensland the events capital of Australia.
Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said the Queensland Football Series and the world-class fan events were exactly the kind of world-class event the Crisafulli Government promised to deliver.
“We promised Queenslanders we would bring the world’s biggest events to our State, and this is what delivery looks like,” Minister Powell said.
“Queensland is the only place in Australia where fans can see Brazil take on the Socceroos, and we’re making the most of that opportunity with street parties and fan opportunities across Townsville and Brisbane.
“These matches mean more visitors, more jobs and more opportunities for Queensland businesses.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its commitment to grow Queensland’s visitor economy, backed by a record $1 billion investment through Destination 2045, in stark contrast to the former Labor Government, which wanted to gut tourism funding by 95 per cent.”
Australia Brazil Chamber of Commerce CEO Valeria Noleto said the match represented a unique moment to celebrate Brazilian culture, business and community connections in Queensland.
“It means an opportunity unlike any other, to celebrate the relationship between Australia and Brazil on a level that I have not seen before,” Ms Noleto said.
“Football is so important to Brazilians, and we’re the country that has won the FIFA World Cup five times, so there’s a huge sense of warmth towards our team, and a sense of recognition of the importance of the game and the importance of Brazil on the world stage.”
