Major investment at Carrum’s Roy Dore Reserve about to kick-off

Works are set to begin in late 2019 on the new $9 million Carrum sporting precinct at Roy Dore Reserve, which will be home to a host of sporting and community groups.

Kingston Council, the Victorian Government, AFL Victoria and local sporting clubs are partnering together on the impressive project which will feature a new main pavilion, tennis pavilion and courts, sports lighting upgrades, landscaping and more.

The major community project will be delivered in three stages over four years with Kingston Council contribution $4.8 million, the Victorian Government contributing $4 million and contributions from AFL Victoria and the reserve user groups. The Australian Government is also contributing $100,000 towards the sports lighting on Oval 1 through Sports Australia’s ‘Move it Australia Infrastructure Grant’.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said Council was proud to continue its transformation of local sporting facilities here at Carrum. “This incredible new facility will benefit a whole range of local groups and help provide Carrum with high-quality facilities to enjoy for decades to come.”

Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny said the Victorian Government is very proud to be part of this project. “Community sport brings people together. And the State Government’s $4 million investment in Roy Dore Reserve will mean families in our community have access to great local sporting amenities, that include female friendly facilities and more accessibility for all,” Ms Kilkenny said.

Designs for the new sporting precinct have been prepared in partnership with, and approved by, the many community groups using the centre including Carrum Patterson Lakes Sports Club, Carrum Cowboys Football Club, Radio Carrum, Carrum Cricket Club, Carrum Patterson Lakes Junior Football Club, Carrum Patterson Lakes Football Netball Club, Long Beach Tennis Club, Melbourne Thunder Masters Touch Rugby Club.

Carrum Patterson Lakes Sports Club President Andrew Adams said the community was looking forward to the major investment in Carrum’s sporting and community facilities. “This upgraded precinct will serve thousands of local families and act as a key community focal point for Carrum. We can’t wait for the final result,” Mr Adams said.
