Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car and Member for Monaro Steve Whan will today visit works at the site of the new Jerrabomberra High School as the Minns Government gets on with the job of building new schools for regional New South Wales.
Construction of the new permanent high school for 500 students will be completed at the end of this year, as the government announces it will lodge a new development application for the school’s future expansion – doubling its permanent capacity to 1000 students.
Work is speeding ahead on the school’s main 3 buildings, which include 24 flexible learning spaces and three support learning spaces, a new library, multi-purpose hall, canteen, sports courts, covered outdoor learning area (COLA), outdoor space and administration facilities.
The school, which opened for Year 7 and 8 students this year in temporary facilities located at Jerrabomberra Public School, will grow by 1 year group each year, with the current cohort of Year 8 students due to be the first to graduate Year 12 in 2027.
Deputy Premier Car also announced the start of master planning for a new high school in nearby Googong, with initial capacity for 700 students, and part of the site planned for a future expansion accommodating up to 2000 students, along with a preschool and public school.
The schools are part of a group of school infrastructure projects in progress within the region, including new primary and high schools in Jindabyne and a new high school in Bungendore.

“The community fought hard for a local high school large enough for the Jerrabomberra community and that’s what the Minns Government will deliver.
“The school is shaping up to be a fantastic place for students to learn, particularly now another science lab is being delivered.”

“It is wonderful to see the work being done to deliver high schools for families in our community. The new high schools will contribute to the long-term success of our students and support our growing community.
“The expansion of the new Jerrabomberra High School and construction of a new high school in Googong were key commitments I made during the election. I thank the local community for their advocacy and passion for local schools.
“I am very pleased that in just over 3 months since the election we can announce progress on delivery.”
