The Hills Shire Council will fast-track design works for various road and traffic projects in Box Hill – four years ahead of schedule.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said the designs for the road upgrades had been brought forward from the 2026-2027 financial year due to the explosion of growth in the new release area.

“Each day, more and more people are moving into Box Hill and using our local roads at greater rates than ever before,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“By bringing forward the designs of these complex road projects, we can have them shovel-ready. They can also be considered for State or Federal Government grants that require projects to be ‘ready to go’, or included in our budget cycle earlier.

“The community have made it clear that fast-tracking intersection upgrades is a key priority in the new release areas and this initiative shows that Council is listening to our residents.

“Better road infrastructure enhances liveability, connectivity and safety, and improves on overall travel times,” Mayor Gangemi added.

The approved road design projects include:

  • $211,177 for a new road at The Water Lane, from Hynds Road to Mason Road;
  • $75,000 for a roundabout at the intersection of Hynds Road, Nelson Road and Edwards Road;
  • $75,000 for a roundabout at the intersection of Mason Road, Old Pitt Town Road and Nelson Road; and
  • $312,693 for signalised intersection at Boundary Road and Brahman Road.

Total = $673,870

“This is a great outcome that further highlights Council’s commitment to delivering essential infrastructure for our new release areas like Box Hill, and the rest of The Hills Shire,” Mayor Gangemi added.
