Today Hydro Tasmania opened the dam gates for keen paddlers to enjoy at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge.
While Hydro Tasmania normally harnesses the power of water to deliver Tasmanians low cost, reliable renewable energy, this weekend they released tens of thousands of litres of water into Cataract Gorge, below the Trevallyn Dam, providing perfect conditions for recreational kayakers and canoeists to enjoy.
While providing clean, secure energy is Hydro Tasmania’s first priority, they also undertake significant work supporting recreational activities for Tasmanians and have committed to at least two special releases down the Gorge each year until 2022, with the next water release scheduled for February next year.
Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s leading clean energy business, largest producer of renewable energy and largest water manager.
The Tasmanian owned business is also playing a vital role in harnessing this state’s renewable energy potential, as we work towards our ambitious goal of being 100 per cent self-sufficient in renewables, with the lowest power prices in the nation by 2022.
Through Tasmania’s Battery of the Nation pumped hydro plans, and the Marinus Link second interconnector, this Government is delivering renewable energy initiatives with the potential to create thousands of jobs, attract billions of dollars in investment and generate opportunities for hundreds of local businesses.
