Opening the Town Hall Broadmeadows and the Hume Global Learning Centre – Sunbury are two of the priority projects earmarked for delivery in Hume City Council’s draft Council Plan 2017–2021 (2019/2020 Actions) and Budget 2019/20.

Other highlights include an increased investment in community services, funding to maintain Council assets including local roads and footpaths, and local sporting groups will benefit from plans to improve facilities, parks and reserves.
Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore, said the two documents detail how Council will ensure Hume residents have access to great facilities and services now and into the future.
“The draft Council Plan 2017–2021 (2019/2020 Actions) and Budget 2019/20 allocates more than $86 million of new investment in Council’s Capital Works Program to upgrade or build community centres, leisure facilities, parks and reserves,” Cr Moore said.
“Excitement is building for the delivery of the Town Hall and HGLC – Sunbury – with the launch of the Town Hall website just this week. Each project offers so many benefits to our community and will be fantastic community spaces where people can come together.
“The increased investment in leisure facilities, parks and reserves is the result of a continued focus on supporting the health and safety of our community; we are committed to creating opportunities for people of all ages and interests to live active and fulfilling lives.”
Based on community feedback, transport planning and infrastructure development remain top priorities for Hume City Council. As such, Council has allocated significant funding for projects to build a connected and vibrant community. Council is also committed to supporting local jobs growth and is focused on creating more business and employment opportunities in Hume.
The draft Budget 2019/20 also includes a $126.2 million investment in services – an $8.84 million increase over the previous financial year. This will fund the provision of day-to-day Council services such as pre-schools, child care, aged services, waste and library services.
“Given the State-wide issues regarding waste management, we are proud to deliver solutions at a local level such as our new e-waste initiative and an additional amenity crew to improve road cleaning and public litter collection,” Cr Moore said.
